The Shrimp

Sunday, November 2, 2008 1
Since my last post, I've been sick and sick... And then there was Fraser Hill and KL on my list last week, thus the slack in updating my blog. Feeling all so sad about reaching that dreaded 30 mark coming this week, I thought nothing could perk me up.. I was surfing for pics of Jean Shrimpton and thought, well, I could do reviews on celebrities in the 60s and 70s, as part of my blog highlights. I've always worshipped Jean and Twiggy - the 2 biggest 60s icons of all time. I was researching on Shrimp, and NOW THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL PERK ME UP ALITTLE :

Biography

"Jean Shrimpton was born on 7 November 1942 in High Wycombe and graduated from Lucie Clayton's modeling school at age 17 in 1960. Nicknamed The Shrimp, she was an icon of Swinging Sixties London.

In 1965 Shrimpton caused a sensation in very conservative Melbourne in Australia when she arrived for the Victoria Derby race during Melbourne Cup week. She shocked everybody by wearing a daring white shift dress which ended high above her knees, a forerunner of the Miniskirt which became a worldwide craze. To make things worse she wore no hat, stockings or gloves which was very controversial at the time. Shrimpton was blissfully unaware she would cause such reactions among the then staid and prim Melbourne community and media."

YES!! We share the same birth date!! ARUGHHH im feeling all so special now HAHHA.. If you see pics of Jean aka The Shrimp, you will know why I'm so crazy about her:

She fronted the magazines as the face of Yardley then. Man, those eyes, those HAIR, NOSE... not many of the modern beauties can be compared to these in olden times. Its a wonder why most women from that era, had thicker hair, longer and thicker lashes, thinner lips... giving them that inherent 60s look? While it seems like ladies in our era, aint bless with such features and will often have to seek the help of makeup or technology (and still often not good enough) to mimick that 60s look...

Oh shall I be called "The Lobster" then!!?
