Old town 1: Malacca

Thursday, December 25, 2008 0
finally I'm updating my blog after 2 month's of hectic lifestyle. my stash of fabric is steadily increasing and production will deem to start soon! (hic!)

Malacca is an old town, filled with lots of vintage treasures. Definitely 1 of my favourite Malaysia places to go! My sweetheart brought me there just to celebrate my big tree-0!

Christmas just passed and everyone was in high spirits. Friends gathered @ Hanwei's new home and they had so much fun with our Wii!! Now 1st on our must-buy list, is Guitar Hero World Tour!!!

And guessed what he bought me??

It was a Samsonite vintage Beauty Case!!! ARUGHHH the one I wanted sooo badly and was sooooo sad when I thought someone else had bought-it-now before me on ebay - who is none other than Mr Steph Lee (his partner in crime)!!!!

The apple pie that took me forever to bake......

It was also our dear friends, Fiona's and Willy's Solemnization Day! Now every Xmas, we have something to celebrate as well!!

The Shrimp

Sunday, November 2, 2008 1
Since my last post, I've been sick and sick... And then there was Fraser Hill and KL on my list last week, thus the slack in updating my blog. Feeling all so sad about reaching that dreaded 30 mark coming this week, I thought nothing could perk me up.. I was surfing for pics of Jean Shrimpton and thought, well, I could do reviews on celebrities in the 60s and 70s, as part of my blog highlights. I've always worshipped Jean and Twiggy - the 2 biggest 60s icons of all time. I was researching on Shrimp, and NOW THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL PERK ME UP ALITTLE :

Biography

"Jean Shrimpton was born on 7 November 1942 in High Wycombe and graduated from Lucie Clayton's modeling school at age 17 in 1960. Nicknamed The Shrimp, she was an icon of Swinging Sixties London.

In 1965 Shrimpton caused a sensation in very conservative Melbourne in Australia when she arrived for the Victoria Derby race during Melbourne Cup week. She shocked everybody by wearing a daring white shift dress which ended high above her knees, a forerunner of the Miniskirt which became a worldwide craze. To make things worse she wore no hat, stockings or gloves which was very controversial at the time. Shrimpton was blissfully unaware she would cause such reactions among the then staid and prim Melbourne community and media."

YES!! We share the same birth date!! ARUGHHH im feeling all so special now HAHHA.. If you see pics of Jean aka The Shrimp, you will know why I'm so crazy about her:

She fronted the magazines as the face of Yardley then. Man, those eyes, those HAIR, NOSE... not many of the modern beauties can be compared to these in olden times. Its a wonder why most women from that era, had thicker hair, longer and thicker lashes, thinner lips... giving them that inherent 60s look? While it seems like ladies in our era, aint bless with such features and will often have to seek the help of makeup or technology (and still often not good enough) to mimick that 60s look...

Oh shall I be called "The Lobster" then!!?

Halloween!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 2
Hail all avid clubbers, fashionistas, designers, drag queens and the likes (you know what I mean) October is Halloween month. By now, you all should be cracking your heads on what will be THE COSTUME for this year's Hell Night. Start sourcing fabrics @ Arab Street, Spotlight or People's Park or yuppies with deeper pockets, pls settle for some quick fixes @No. 1 Costume (was it already defunct?)

Anyway, I do not have friends who really fancy the thought of partying on Hell Night in outrageous outfits. My halloweens were last spent with D and K in Zouk. As I belong to the 'avid clubbers' or 'fashionista' category, and would really immerse myself into getting my act together for Hell Night. In 2002, I was:

A Pink Genie from "I Dream of Jeannie" of a 1965 flick. Then, in 2003, I was:
Lara Croft from Tomb Raider!! Nothing special, you thought.. some drags can do better than this.. oh well. Here comes the classic Halloween costumes!!

Was it boredom that got the better of us, I seriously dont remember... She being the elder one, soon got bored of acting silly and was being terriorised by me in the end ....

My parents should have named her Rudolf......

Yours truly,
The Unglam Santa

Some things never change

Monday, September 29, 2008 5
This entry was inspired by my dear friend, Jael, whom I met up briefly yesterday. She said, everyone of us have our own talents, while hers is in writing and literature, my is indeed sewing, crochet, basically handicraft.

Lately, I had my childhood keepsake: handmade Barbie doll clothings, framed up. Kudos to my sister, Eliza, whom had hers framed up 1st. I guess this was part of us that we will never wana throw away, and perhaps this is the best way to preserve them and admire them as and when we can. Since young, both of us were always full of ideas in our heads. As mum had always been thrifty, having Barbie dolls was a luxury, let alone having a whole collection of haute couture for them. So..... we took scraps or bedsheets, pillow cases, and turned them into pretty dresses for them. We even went on to crochet after being abit more adventurous!
All of these, had been painsakingly hand sewn by us perhaps at the tender age of 5 as far as my memory can travel back in time. Those were the days, when computers and internet were akin to unicorns and dragons. I was often looking over my sister's shoulders as she worked, yes, she was the head seamstress, while the younger me, was her only loyal customer. hehe

WIP - Web In Progress

Sunday, September 28, 2008 2
Its never been a more fulfilling Sunday. Finished the 2nd page of my website and being extremely satisfied with the results of my site design so far. This is the outcome of 2 weeks of reading and trial and error on my Photoshop and Dreamweaver. My Photoshop skill has finally went up 1 more notch, bringing me closer to the Pro level!! (maybe not)

I'm elated, restless, overwhelmed... that with this principle of mine, I can do wonders: "If anyone can do it, I can do it too. They are all humans too."
